Yeah, but the whole point with CHUM is to be different, innovative and unique... and they likely will never get a desk. If Hudson wants a desk, he should go back to CH.

He should move to A-Channel in Alberta and Manitoba . . . interactive news mixed with maturity and experience. I hope we get A-Channel in British Columbia within the next 6 years. Word is A-Channel has applied for a broadcast licence for a fourth network in Saskatchewan, b-casting out of Saskatoon. We'll see how that materializes.

Well, A-Channel really lacks a solid identity... first they're trying to be all CHUMmy... now they're trying to be like everyone else... Make up your mind! Their style now (at least in Edmonton) really sucks... Calgary is a bit better... and Winnipeg still stands up.

I saw a report today on The Noon NewsHour on Global from CH, which was done by Cheekwan Ho. On the lower third graphic, they called her "Ho Cheekwan".

In Asia, the last name is usually put before the first. Which may explain the error, which wasn't really one. NewsDUDE: I agree, Edmonton's style is rather poor. But I would disagree. I say Calgary's A-Channel has the best news, with Peg a close second. Nothing wrong with either, I just prefer Calgary's anchors and set better.

Who really cares weather a man reads siting down or standing up... with a desk or without.. these things are ALL IRRELIVANT. What should really matter is the actual content of your newscast... and while we are on the subject, EVERYONE SHOULD STOP TRYING TO READ LIKE THEY ARE WALTER KRONKITE, OR KENT BROCKMAN, OR RON BERGUNDY. I hate the fact that television personalities usually talk like their viewers are all children. KPEACE.

Kent Brockman and Ron Bergundy? They're fictional characters, and I don't think any proffesional journalist tries to act like them And the children point...Journalists are supposed to assume that this is the first time you've heard about the story (which is true in most cases) and give you all the necessary information on the situation, as well as a brief backgrounder.

To Tim:
Oops... I just read what I wrote - when I said "Winnipeg still stands up" - I meant that they still do the news standing up. I do agree - A-Channel Cowtown is the best. A-Channel Edmonton doesn't even have its own local Wired show anymore - and no entertainment reporters. And they only have a two-man sports department now...
And to Skraggler... Ron Burgundy and Kent Brockman... who talks like them?

I knew they stood up to broadcast but I didn't think that was what you meant. As for Edmonton, I swear CHUM will combine its Edmonton operations into Calgary at this rate - they are getting rid of too much local programming - master control for A-Channel Edmonton is already handled in Calgary. I heard a rumour that A-Channel Edmonton was going to cut News at Noon so that Craig/CHUM could reinstitute Live @ Five in Calgary, which hadn't been on for four years and was the subject of high viewer numbers.

Cutting A-Channel Edmonton's noon news so Calgary can have a 5 PM news show? How cheap is that?!? Yeeeesh. It wouldn't surprise me if Calgary's Live @ Five had high numbers... although if it was added back, that would be interesting, since 1) it'd be the only CHUM station to have a 5 PM newscast (Toronto tried it a few years back, then moved it to 4 PM... then cancelled it)... and 2) since Global and CFCN both have their newscasts now running for the entire 5 PM hour.
A-Channel Edmonton should be very careful about what it does because the competition is so fierce.

Yeah, it doesn't sound right, but I guess that's what happens. Save money in one place to have it somewhere else that its needed. That means Rob Hislop is out of a job Meh, they'll probably move him to Calgary to do 5pm. I hope they dig Kurt Stoodley out of whereever he went. FYI: Live@Five was an hour before they cancelled it. 2) since Global and CFCN both have their newscasts now running for the entire 5 PM hour. Actually, both stations say their newscasts during the 5pm hour are separated in half (at CFCN Jocelyn Laidlaw does the first half, Ian White does the second); and at Global it's the same (as there was never a 5pm newscast when I lived there, just a 5:30pm one). But it doesn't matter as it's still 60 min., obviously.

As long as the New VI is the New VI no Vancouver islander is going to watch it. We don't want a new "VI". It is too forgein and fake looking.

This "new" stuff has got to stop. In Ontario, CKVR has been "The New VR" for NINE - yes, 9 years now! It's not new anymore, and neither are CFPL, CKNX, CHWI, or CHRO. As for CIVI, it is now three years old and doesn't need to be "new" anymore. Just call the friggin thing VI, CIVI, or something with channel 53 or cable 12.
And, A-Channel has got to stop calling itself that, at least in Manitoba anyways. Hopefully CHUM will discontinue that brand once the sale goes through.

I might sound a little cheeky here, but "New Brunswick" has been called that for decades and it's definitely not "new" anymore. Neither is "New York" for that matter. ;D

CJOH: A-Channel Manitoba used to be MTN, as you probably know. A-Channel means Alberta's Channel, as you probably know. MTN was the last to change to that brand, so really, in principle, there's nothing wrong with the way the system's named. Although I wouldn't mind seeing Winnipeg go back to MTN, it was a good station.
