I'm actually kind of excited to see how this "new" New VI will shape up, with all the new talent. And can you please just name your newscast one title, I'm getting confused , is it officially "VILAND NEWS" or "VI NEWS" geez!

I wish they would get rid of VI!!!!!!!! It's the stupidest acronym every! No one here calls it that nor does anyone want to. If they changed their name maybe I would watch them.

VI is their last two call letters. They've already killed all verbal reference to the word land. I think they were probably waiting to figure out their new format before changing their graphics.
And until CHUM makes a network wide name change to the stations with the 'New' names, they're stuck calling the station The New VI.
Besides, is calling your station CH any better? What the heck does CH mean? How does the name of the station of all things factor in on whether or not you watch?

I'd watch quality newscast even if they called it All BS News or whatever. The content is more important than the name. An irritating anchor, however, can make me turn off any newscast in a hurry. Yeah, what the heck is CH?

Ah, the parody. I remember one where they had "The New BS" with two anchors preening before the cameras and tripping all over the studio...

Unfortunately, "CH" came from CHCH, which stands for "Hamilton's Channel". I have no problem with CHCH-TV being called CH, but it is pretty dumb to have elsewhere in Canada. Right now RDTV (CKRD-TV) is getting ready to become the 4th CH (there's also one in Montreal, CJNT-TV), which is really dumb. There is one CH and it should stay that way. CHEK should be CHEK, RDTV should be RDTV, etc. That's what you get from big media ownership. Global, CBC, and CTV should each be permitted to own one television station in all of eastern Canada and one in western Canada, no more. All other stations would be privatized, and no company would be permitted to own more than 4 stations in Canada, with a maximum of two per province. It is time to bring back local ownership.

I wish Global had just left their Vancouver Island station as CHECK TV, seeing that the station was so well known & successful as that. It would also be nice if CTV British Columbia had some sort of local identiier Like BCCTV or CIVT CTV Like the rest of the CTV network affiliates do.

Disagree with you there. You're saying you'd like a complicated broadcasting system like in the Netherlands or Denmark, instead of a simple, consolidated network. I'd rather see something like what's in Britain. Have a national network, and change each station into a nation-wide branch of the network. ie. CTV Vancouver becomes CTV Two... CTV Toronto is CTV One.. Calgary is CTV Three.. and consolidate leftover stations into larger regions to save costs and the like. Do the same with the systems and networks (excluding A-Channel... they're fine )

Actually yes, I would rather have a complicated broadcast system. Canada is just such a huge country that the needs of Vancouver are far different from Winnipeg, Toronto, or Sydney, NS. England is not a fair comparison because it is comparitively such a small country and one branding can work more easily. The problem in Canada is that Global owns so many stations, as do CTV and CBC. Local stations should be owned locally, and should be branded in a way that reflects the market it serves, whether it be a callsign, regional name, or whatever. I dream of a day when the only CTV O&O is CFTO Toronto, and all other CTV stations are owned locally. The almighty dollar does play a role, but serving the public must come first. It's all about money in Canadian television, it's not about serving the public with what they WANT anymore. In fact I recently filed a complaint with the CRTC about this, related to the CBC.

Well I don't seem to mind Global and CTV owning lots of stations infact more the better but anyways I like almoast everything the way it is now te only two things I would change would be
RDTV to become a CH station
NTV to become a CH station (they alredy air 95% Global/CH programing so sence theres alredy a Global station in that area why not make it CH)

CH supposedly stands for Closer to Home. I still like Chek better.
