I don't know about you guys, but I think it's time for CIVT to get some new open graphics. they are so boring to look at. Question, Who do you guys think has the worst graphics.

I'm fine with the open, I just think they should probably get the lower thirds used by CFCF. They would probably fit the CTV bug much better.
As for the worst graphics in general... I would have to nominate BCTV/Global. When I first saw those graphics 2 years ago, there was so much red I thought I was watching a Communist station. I would've said City/CKVU had the worst graphics before September; theirs look alright now.

Well, at least BCTV/Global has some blue in theirs now...and it looks like they are gradually changing to a different graphics scheme. Supposedly there is going to be more blue in the L3's, they've already changed the weather graphics....and etc.

yah, the new weather graphics are because they got a whole new machine. Does anyone know how they get the temperatures to light up when the presenter touches it?

Before their graphics and whatnot were painfully amatuerish. Like how a small-market station would do it. Now it's okay, except I don't like their opening theme, but that's another story.

Well, the blue's only in the promos. I'm thinking that unless Global gets a new look for its news across the network, BCTV wouldn't deviate itself from the network (any more so than the status quo) by having blue in the L3s. And seeing how they seem to have changes on a seasonal basis (ie during fall of each year; at least that's the way it appears to me), the earliest we'll get a new look may be fall 2004. By then Global would've had the red look for 3 years. Then again, what do I know. As for BCTV's new weather system... I'll say it's pretty cool. Recently this topic came up on an American board, as Chicago's WLS is apparently now using a similar system (at least it sounds like it from the way the guy described it). Here's the thread: groups.msn.com/TheLocalNewsDiscussion/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message=5429&LastModified=4675446798189727480I'll say their new weather full-screens are rather ugly though, with the pastel colours and the whooshes spinning around madly in the background. I also don't like the fact that they no longer do a fly through when they go into the regional forecasts... Just "Northeast", "Columbia-Kootenay", etc. on a map of the entire BC all the way through. That's kinda dull.

What Global is now using is the latest in MICK (multi-interactive chroma-key) technology. Did you ever notice that the weather presenter never shows the camera the back of his/her hand? Well, on the back of the hand are little sensors and when the presenter puts his/her hand at the point where he/she wants the information to be displayed, he/she clicks the correct button on the traditional "hand-held information device"...then the information is displayed at the point where he/she placed his/her hand.
They place a sensor on the tip of the index finger, knuckle, medial end bone and wrist.
