The new logo really looks like a step backwards, and more rudimentary than the streamlined crescent. I wonder how much the Ad exec's got paid for this one...

Sweet. It looks VERY Radio Canada esque.

The news intro looks quite sharp. It kind of reminds me of BBC world news opening for some reason. I like it.

If you watch carefully there are some lines of text that appear a couple times on the zoom-in of Alberta, but the resolution isn't high enough to determine what the text says. One is right after Stephen Harper at the hockey rink. Could those be lists of call letters and channels? The layout suggests that it might be. I never liked the crescent logo. This logo is an improvement. The simpler the logo, the better, and that's what is good about the CTV logo. Logos should be easy to draw, and that's where CBC has a problem.

You know, if they call everything NewsHour _____ then BCTV isn't really dead. Because technically they were the only station in the WIC network to use that branding for the newscasts (am I wrong?). And I like the new theme, the angled ribbons, the map and the jingle are sort of RDI'ish. (as previously stated) So, the scrolling data theme has been used before in other stations (ex. A-Channel 1997-2003) and Global Political Events (such as Decision Canada - which currently looks like raining characters.) Now that they've gotten rid of most of the red, I actually like all of this! Angled graphics instead of round ones are great! Ok. So i'm not dreaming all this up right? That video has been replayed 52 times in a matter of half an hour.

VERY good news open - stylish, contemporary, subtle, effective.
I like it a lot. I guess the logo and the graphics are a package deal, then, in regards to Millar's comments - the logo seems much more effective/complete when they use it in the open.

I wonder if Global National will get new graphics? They seem to constantly be changing fonts, adding sounds, adding moving stuff to their on screen graphics. Maybe after this big change a little consistency would be good for them.

Oh, I bet - if the look of the network is changing they can't exactly keep the arc logo.

As far as the news output is concerned, everyone in the network is aiming to be like BCTV - they're the standard now for local news at Global.

Anyone ever thought of why they used Global Edmonton instead of other stations like Global BC (the "standard" as called by tvwest above) in the news open demo?

Im guessing because Global BC doesnt look as good on the graphic as Global Edmonton (because Edmonton appears under Global, BC is much shorter) GLOBAL Edmonton Global BC

They'll probably go with "Global British Columbia" on the open, then, tom, if your idea is correct.
