They are promoting it as a "new" newscast, and in a sense it is...

It is a new newscast, seeing as it expands Mid and North Island coverage. Cool idea on their part, I think it'll fly.

From what I understand, this new show will in the 6:30 to 7:00 block and there won't be any Victoria news at all. Just the rest of the island. I wonder what that means for the main show? Do they just do Victoria, the rest of BC and Canada and international and neglect the rest of the island the first hour and a half?

I like the idea a lot. How much does CHEK cover the mid and north Island anyways? If they don't then it'll give them a good competitive edge. I wonder if they'll add transmitters elsewhere on the island?
Now if only other A-Channels, namely CKNX and CKVR, could cover their broadcast regions properly...

Well, ok, not yet. I think it's still 12:50 there.

Coverage was well done, IMO. Few glitches but that comes with the new territory. But it really helped to have experienced journalists on that beat, I thought. Good start.
