Even though the federal election coverage is still going on and will be for awhile. What do you think about local coverage and the national coverage from the networks?

From the BCTV news director fwd:
Steve Wyatt and Dennis Skulsky have both asked me to pass on their best wishes for tonight, after outstanding work during the campaign. Me too! - The preparation by everyone has been superb and I know we're going to do a bang-up job this evening. Thanks to everyone for the professionalism and commitment. Here's a note from Leonard Asper too - cheers - Ian
From Leonard Asper re: Decision Canada
Just a note to wish all of you good luck tonight. I know this is the end of a very long road for all of you and your respective teams so I just wanted to pass on my "break a leg" memo on your collective Broadway debut as leaders of the number one news organisation in the country.
P.S. Please feel free to pass this on to whomever you wish. I know there are literally hundreds of people involved and I did not want to risk missing anyone!
Regards,
Leonard Asper President and CEO CanWest Global Communications Corp.

For a relatively young network news department covering its first federal election, Global did fine. That humongous multi-level desk seated by 3 dozen people looks cool, but is quite the overkill. I appreciate the fact that BCTV had local coverage for the 10pm hour; the coverage of the West Van riding was particularly interesting.
I was out that night and didn't set the VCR; how much coverage did City have?

CityTV's coverage concentrated on Lower Mainland/BC. They've got Simi and Roger sitting with Vaugh Palmer for commentary. In between throwing it to Dag Sharman (Lower Mainland) and Elaine Yong (rest of BC) for the latest poll results, there were some live feeds from various campaign headquarters or something. They were on air until 10pm. The whole thing looked a little low-tech and homemade, but hey, it's enough for me.

The New VI ran plenty of local coverage. Moe Sihota, Pia Shandel and Norman Spector provided commentary. They also had live shots from Montreal, Calgary and Toronto.

Has anyone else noticed the quality of City's news programming decrease since they joined CHUM? The only good-looking thing they have now is their website.
Simi and Roger's talents are wasted there, they should look for work where they deserve it (at a better station).
