Is anyone surprised that Global National did not have live coverage of the pope's death today? CBC and CTV went live for a few hours.
Also, I'm surprised to see Kevin came back from his vacation to host Global National from Montreal live yesterday, and Global sent quite a few reporters to Rome, including Alison Vuchnich and Troy Reeb, today.

Not quite true - there was some live coverage on Global National today, just not a lot (I think), especially in comparison to CTV and CBC.

There was a half-hour special that broke into programming early Saturday morning (7:30 AM Pacific/8:30 AM Mountain).

There was a half-hour special that broke into programming early Saturday morning (7:30 AM Pacific/8:30 AM Mountain). I wasn't up that early on a Saturday morning. Who anchored it? From where? The pope didn't die until 11:37 AM Pacific Time, so what was that GN special about?

CTV NewsNet and CBC Newsworld had live coverage in the wee hours of the morning (1 am-?) Global is never my first choice for breaking news, they always end up simulcasting with CNN...cheap.

Tonight, Global National's Francis Silvaggio and anchor Kevin Newman were in Rome. Kevin also mentioned that he will be anchoring with Troy Reeb in Rome all through this week.
