Hello, I am a room mate of Mike. All I have to say is, wow. This forum is unbeliveable. I, as someone who was very close to Mike would like to see the site rules updated saying either one of the following. Not that I want to tell anyone how to do their "job" (@oping at this forum) "1)Please do not post off topic" or "2) Please do not post 'garbage' "in here''' (whatever 'garbage' may entitle - a complaint from a GUEST, so it means nothing)" It would really help a lot if the rules would be updated or be pointed out to future forum posters. Heck, sure beats Tim's idea of "warning broadcasters". Maybe Mike didn't know what was appropriate here, as it wasn't clearly stated anywhere for him to know. Honestly, he was probably board and looking to add his quick witted humour to a library of quiteness. Although sometimes his threads can be taken the wrong way in an offending type of way. This is pretty a "freely open" forum.

It is a free, open forum. Last time I checked, there's no general discussion board on this forum. And there never will be, unless the users of the board want one. Until then, this forum is specifically for the discussion of television, radio and other media in Vancouver, on the island and in northwest Washington, as well with the rest of Canada and the world.

Well, they started doing it here (problably ages ago)
It's like a 'sign' theme. And they *do* say 'Don't waste your time'
Darn, I have 53.3 GBytes of video that I need to find a way to upload onto the internet.

Well! Global Edmonton is seriously going almost overboard with this advertising scheme! Something of theirs in every commercial break! Advertising 'the most local news in Edmonton', 'Think. Global.' 'Why watch anything else?'
What's next? 'Know Sooner - Gord Steinke and Lynda Steele on Global News @ 6'

Well i guess they have to be more agressive, especially since CFRN is now at about 158,000, up from 134,000 or so viewers were as Global Edmonton is only at 116,000 compared to 106,800 last spring.

Global will never have as much advertising as CTV does

Who exactly are you trying to argue with here, Ben? CTV is advertising so that they can catch up to Global. That's a perfectly legitimate tactic, and it's working VERY well. Global seems to be sitting there in awe watching a speeding freight train gaining on them fast.

Wow, did someone just say that Claire Matin is leaving from CITV Global next week?
What!

Tim, you are right about Global just doing nothing about CTV's ads. BCTV Global should really start to advertise the same way CTV does, trash the other stations. BCTV News on Global should be bragging on how they are #1 but they don't all they do is the Know Sooner thing.
By the way is CTV catching up to Global in the ratings? I don't think so.

Ben, you're not actually serious about that, are you?
CTV's programming consistently rates higher than Global's. Consistently. As for the news, CTV had about 14% of the audience share in 2001 compared to Global's 61% (at six o'clock). Now, in 2005, it's CTV with 28% and Global with around 45%. So, yes, I think it's safe to say the gap has narrowed severely.

No, I know that CTV's programs do better than Global's, I was talking about news. Global is still #1, and 45% is not that bad (better than CTV's 28%)

Any simpleton could tell that CTV News is starting to catch up in the ratings to BCTV News, according to Tim's stats. For CTV News to increase 14% is significant - that means it has doubled its audience from last year. BCTV News has dropped around 16%.
It's simple math and logic - CTV News is narrowing the gap and is starting to catch up. Yes, BCTV News is still #1 - that's not up for debate. However, CTV News is starting to give BCTV a run for its money.
I say when Tony finally leaves the anchor chair, there could very well be a change in the Vancouver News landscape and the ratings landscape. Not only that, BC is the only anomaly in the news landscape in Canada. In every major market in Canada, CTV is #1 with the exception of BC. It's only a matter of time now. Don't forget, if there wasn't the big switch, it would still be BCTV/CTV which would make CTV #1.
