Heh, I thought BCTV was an affiliate of CTV -- or else it would have been CTV, right? Was VTV a CTV affiliate back when it was VTV? Arg, this is all confusing. All this with CTVs and BCTVs, or maybe minus the 'B'. Wait, that was meant to be BC-TV, not B-CTV. Urg. ---- Seriously -- if they're not BCTV anymore then call it Global! Sometimes 'BCTV News on Global' sounds like there's this thing called BCTV and it's doing news, and Global's just broadcasting it.
Is there any example of this branding 'behaviour' anywhere else in Canada? How do they call Global Ontario?

A little bit of a history lesson Trent:
Before the switch in 2001 the stations went like this:
BCTV = CTV VTV = Ind. (in fact CHUM at one point tried to buy VTV - correct me if I'm wrong) CKVU = Global CBC = CBC
After the switch: BCTV = Global VTV = CTV CKVU = Ind. then CITY
So, yes, at one point for many years BCTV was the CTV affiliate in BC, as it aired CTV National News. At one point, it got really confusing, right after the switch when Global's Broadcasts were "BCTV News on Global" and CTV's were "BC CTV"
I'm sure more people could add to this.

After the switch: CHAN = Global CIVT = CTV CKVU = CITY (VI) CHEK = Global (VI) CIVI = CHUM

Is there any example of this branding 'behaviour' anywhere else in Canada? How do they call Global Ontario? CIII (Global Ontario) basically just calls itself "Global"/"Global News". But then, they've always been known as "Global", ever since their launch back in the 70s. They haven't had to deal with what we had in BC. CHUM was definitely one of the groups in the license war when the CRTC opened it up. In fact, CHUM was apparently the favorite in winning the bid. Baton didn't join in the bid until the last moment (I think), and they surprisingly won. What pissed CHUM off even more was, of course, how Baton stole their idea in branding VTV. I don't know if CHUM tried to buy VTV *after* it went on-air. VTV did carry some CTV programming before the affil. switch, but they weren't an official CTV network affiliate (which, of course, BCTV/CHAN still was).

I gotta say - I liked the old VTV style... it was very cool, modern, and still professional.

The drums were annoying. In my opinion.
