After much back and forth on that issue, CH is finally coming to Alberta. RDTV in Red Deer will officially become CH Red Deer in the first week of September and bring CH programming to Alberta, the Calgary Herald reports today.

Now how many (of the English network affiliates) will there be left in Canada after September, assuming CHBC takes on the CH brand at that time... - CKPG Prince George - CFJC Kamloops - CJDC Dawson Creek - CFTK Terrace - CKPR Thunder Bay - CHFD Thunder Bay - CHEX Peterborough - CHEX-2 Oshawa - CKWS Kingston - CJON St. John's

But they're not actual CBC stations, they are independent, just running some CBC programming.

The stations you mentioned share common ownernship with the CBC None of the mentioned stations are owned by the CBC; not all of them are even CBC affiliates. Let's re-post the list, with affiliation and ownership (I added four more stations I forgot last night). - CKPG Prince George (CBC affiliate owned by Jim Pattison) - CFJC Kamloops (CBC affiliate owned by Jim Pattison) - CJDC Dawson Creek (CBC affiliate owned by Standard Radio) - CFTK Terrace (CBC affiliate owned by Standard Radio) - CKSA Lloydminster (CBC affiliate owned by Midwest Television) - CITL Lloydminster (CTV affiliate owned by Midwest Television) - CKX Brandon (CBC affiliate owned by CHUM) - CJBN Kenora (CTV affiliate owned by Norcom Cable) - CKPR Thunder Bay (CBC affiliate owned by Dougall Media) - CHFD Thunder Bay (CTV affiliate owned by Dougall Media) - CHEX Peterborough (CBC affiliate owned by Corus) - CHEX-2 Oshawa (CBC affiliate owned by Corus) - CKWS Kingston (CBC affiliate owned by Corus) - CJON St. John's (owned by Newfoundland Broadcasting) All stations owned by the CBC have callsigns starting with CB, except for former O&Os CJBR-TV Rimouski (French, now rebroadcasting CBVT Quebec) and CFLY-TV Goose Bay (English, now rebroadcasting CBNT St. John's), and also the CBC North transmitters.

I am not one to resurrect old threads. Besides, this IS a big HEADLINE and hence a new thread was begun.

I AM one to resurrect old threads. Like the time I found tvforBC.com's archivesite.

The call sign "CKRD-TV" will be recalled when the Red Deer station switches to CH. It will be "CHCA-TV".

CHCA -- Meaning what? Just because of the 'CH' suffix? CH Central Alberta, I guess.
What's the point of a callsign change? -- wait, that's good. Does that mean i'll be able to get a CKRD license now?
Edit: Wait-a-minute! CHCA was their OLD callsign before they became CKRD. Are they going back in history now? -- there's no going back. They all refer to RDtv as CHCA now. Either that, or it was a website with ancient information on it.
Today when I returned from Calgary went on a quick stop near the RD-TV station sign (A Canwest Company) -- Now, had to say the reception was better than Cable TV! (I had a TV on all the way on Highway 2 -- seems that CITV's translator on Channel 10 has an awfully large coverage area, stretching all the way north to Wetaskiwin (where then ch13 becomes receiveable)
Well, the first week of September is coming close... too close, in fact.
Edit: Apparently CanWest Global wants to license transmitters in Edmonton and Calgary to, uh, serve a larger area.
Well, I guess so. Just like the last year/months of BCTV, it was all owned by Canwest but continued using the same name...then it all happened.
Any more local stations around? There isn't anything different anymore here! CTV, City, CBC, Global and some more CHUM stations. Anything independent? Even NBC stations in the U.S.A. have slight differences in theme music and graphics. They don't all look exactly the same!

Okay, it's on September 5th. There's advertising on city buses saying "New channel for Alberta on September 5th"
It's not really a new channel...but that's what they call it.

Well, I guess it's happening tomorrow. Awww, why does *everything* have to be Global? In Red Deer Ch10 is already CITV!
Oh well, they've had their 'A Canwest Company' bit of text on their sign for ages now.

We'll start with pictures first, then when I get enough stuff I can start another one of my threads. I got the 'what this new TV station means for you' news clip, alright. Coming soon. Well, it's CHCA alright, that's what they call 'em, that's what it is. Even my VCR says so: Before After

It's interesting too how the on-air talent themselves were calling the station CHCA along with CH Red Deer.
Heck, they even have their own URL - chreddeer.com.
