I see Alison Smith is leaving the CBC morning news in September to take over as Washingtons senior corrospondent as David Halton is retiring. David Halton set to retire from CBCTORONTO - Veteran CBC News correspondent David Halton is set to retire in June, after 40 years at the network. Halton, who for more than a decade has been CBC's senior correspondent in Washington, will be replaced by Alison Smith, anchor of CBC News Morning. David Halton Halton joined CBC News in 1965, becoming Paris-based correspondent for The National a year later. During his career, Halton has reported from Quebec, London and Ottawa. Halton, who will continue to act as a "special contributor" to CBC News and CBC.ca, will also be writing a book. Smith, whose broadcast experience with CBC began in 1977, will join the Washington bureau in the autumn.
