So word on the street is that CBC has plans for a huge makeover of its newscasts this fall - not just animations and graphics - but in overall presentation too. Its aspiration? To be better than Global National. Its prime target? Global National. Hmm...... (Sorry Ben )

Here's what I think should happen...
The National: Less documentaries, more investigative reporting. As for the studio, we need something completely different. Remove that blue piece of wood behind the globe windows so we can once again get a view of the newsroom. Put in a video wall, and several "anchor positions" plus a central desk (sort of like NBC Nightly News) Get a graphics package and stick with it. CBC has a tendancy to change things quite frequently which end up looking terrible and mis-matched. CBC should go for a graphic look, and none of this BS contemporary stuff.
Canada Now: Scrap it and replace it with local news at six and eleven.
Newsworld: More News, less docs. Newsworld also needs to revamp it's program names and construct one central studio for all of the newscasts.

CBC is dead! How great would it be if they went on strike! You can't beat Global National!

CBC is dead! How great would it be if they went on strike! You can't beat Global National! CBC has something that Global doesn't have. That is CBC Newsworld. Sure, CTV has "NewsNet", but that's only 'headline news' honestly.

If Global really wanted a 24hr news service, they could probably swing it. Although the CRTC might not license it. As CTV and CBC already have them. Global BC has the studio space. Studio 1 is only used twice a year for the telethons and off and on for outside production. Would be perfect. It won't happen though. Sorry, Ben.

Hmm. Noticed that CBC's World (something) graphics look even more like BBC. But then again, I guess every other TV station's borrowing themes around so much that you don't know which is which. Which gives me an idea. Does that mean I get to use BCTV themes since I have the original audio files now?

Well I can see why it'd be prime target for Global National, especially with the suppertime national newscasts, which only those CBC and Global have. That, or maybe they're just going after second place right now, knowing that CTV News is a juggernaut for news in Canada.

CHTR of course. My neighborhood low power TV transmitting facility. 'BCTV Nationwide' resurrection project.

Ummm, yeah - I think Lloyd's past his prime and really now, does the guy know anything about news or journalism? Have you worked in the CTV national newsroom? I don't think he's solely responsible for them being #1 - I think its CTV's prime-time line-up that's a great lead in to that. Real journalists are like Peter Mansbridge, Kevin Newman, Wendy Mesley, Tara Nelson, Sandie Rinaldo, Lisa LaFlamme, Nancy Wilson, Diana Swain, Wei Chen... I think CTV should try to get someone like Ian Hanomansing when and if Lloyd Robertson ever steps down. He's a great journalist - and is excellent on-air. And if CBC wants to improve, get rid of the "Toronto is the centre of the universe, this is where everything happens, nothing matters outside of Toronto" mentality. Tell the stories people are interested in and they want to see... quit being so stuffy.

Announcer - "Live from Studio 1, at the Global News Headquaters in British Columbia, it's The Global News Channel"
It won't happen. a) studio 1 would have to majorly renovated b) it just won't happen

Yes it will never happen...at least not in British Columbia, as Global would have to build an extenstion to their building. Speaking of which, I wonder how much longer 7850 Enterprise will be around for? It's getting quite crowded in there.

Speaking of which, I wonder how much longer 7850 Enterprise will be around for? It's getting quite crowded in there. The last building extension was in 1975. The current newsroom was added. Unless they want further extend the building into one of the side parking lots, but I don't see that happening at all. Really, Studio 1 is used only for telethons and the seldom outside, private production. The studio would have to be updated and renovated. It's not quite as sophisticated as Studio 2 is (News Studio) None of this will happen. They could do it if they wanted to.
