If you look on cfrntv.ca, you'll see all references to "CFRN" are gone... I am wondering if someone can capture tonight's news opener and see if indeed they have rebranded to "CTV News"..

I'll capture CFRN for ya. Tonight at 11PM.
Sure, the on air branding is CTV but the sign and totem (and callsign) outside their studios will always be CFRN.

I believe national news is at 11PM then it's local news at 11:30
I'll just do it all.

Hopefully with their new name they'll get a new set. The current one is just ugly.

CFRN, along with other CTV stations - will soon join BC, Saskatchewan, and Toronto in terms of generic branding.
In other words, all of these stations will be known as CTV sooner or later.

No the OSD doesn't stay open by default but I was programming the timer to record that thing. But then that was useless anyways because I set the timer on the computer

For now, everything's still as it used to be. Last station to use their callsign in their station name! Is that me, or is every station overlaying the time right next to 'LIVE'? Still CFRN. Reporters call it CFRN. News anchors too. Nice day in Edmonton.

Hopefully with their new name they'll get a new set. The current one is just ugly. This set is a lot nicer than the generic one CTV is using at a number of other stations. The generic set has way too bright and colourful. Looks like a kid's show. Also, CFCF has jacked up the references to CTV on their website. On one page they have one ad at the top that mentions CTV News, then at the bottom of the page the exact same ad, but with CFCF News. Like CFRN, the references to MCTV are gone. On their coverage map they put a sloppy pasteover over the MCTV part of the MCTV-CTV logo, that just says "MAP" in Arial. What could they possibly be gaining by ditching longtime heritage names? They rarely ever do this in the United States.

Both CTV & Global seem to be doing the same thing with the branding on their Stations. I prefer local stations to have their historic names (ie CFRN not just CTV-Edmonton) As far as the U.S. TV stations as far as I know only new York, Chicago & L.A. have O&Os & those have the networks name front & center. The other markets ie Seattle, San Fran the stations are strictly affiliates owned by various companies, so the networks have no say in how the Station brands it's self. ;D
