Global National's weekend anchor Tara Nelson is marrying personal trainer Stephen Harper (sp?) tomorrow, Friday, evening. Kevin Newman will be attending the festivities, thus Suzette Meyers will be anchoring GN tomorrow and on the weekend.

Interesting - was this announced on GN today? Also, I guess her new husband is not to be confused with the other Stephen Harper. I don't think the other Stephen Harper is a personal trainer! Ha ha!

Tara's marriage was mentioned on Sunday's Noon NewsHour w/ Robin Stickley. Jas Johal was promoting his documentary on Bollywood (to be premiered tonight at 8pm I think) and Robin asked if he's going to be watching it at home. Jas said no, he had to go to a friend's function, actually... Tara Nelson's wedding. I got Tara's fiance's name from an article in the National Post some time ago. He's Kevin Newman's personal trainer.

Seems like many anchors are attending the wedding tonight. For BCTV, Reg Hampton hosted the Early News for Deb Hope, while Robin Stickley hosted the NewsHour for Tony Parsons. For CTV, Mike Kileen hosted News at 5 for Coleen Christie, and Bill Good hosted News at 6 while Pamela Martin is away. For CH, Ed Watson hosted the evening news while Sophie Lui is away.

They might NOT be at the wedding and it is unusual for a Friday night wedding, I believe - most have them on Saturday afternoons. However, there is a Dinner Gala tonight that according to Rick Forchuk of CKNW, who mentioned it on his Media Buzz awhile ago, says the dinner has "the who's who" of local celebrities. That dinner is the DARE BC "Dare to Care Gala" which is also happening tonight, so that's where they all might be. That or could be all a coincidence.

Really? She's going to be quite busy - she's also hosting the Children's Hospital Miracle Network Telethon this weekend along with Wayne Cox. Of course, plenty of other talent will be there too!

Indeed he will be happy this weekend - nearly all Global personalities there at some point during the 23 hours!! I wonder if he's volunteered at the Telethon?

I doubt Ben volunteered this year. Maybe in previous he has. Maybe he got a golf shirt.
The special thing about the CMNT (Miracle Weekend) on Global BC is that it is only 12 hours instead of 24 continous hours (Variety Club Show Of Hearts) .
4 hours on Saturday and 8 hours on Sunday Global BC still aired regular programming last night; "News Hour Final" , a repeat of "Saturday Night Live" (simulcast on KING), and "The Sunday Morning News" on Sunday at 8am. The hours of 1-6am on Sunday were, I believe, taped segments. Someone can correct me if I am wrong because I took a nap during this time.
Back in the days of CKVU, the CMNT was 23 continous hours, but they would fill up the 'late-night' hours with taped performances of concerts, etc. During this time the CKVU signal was simulcast on KOMO by cable companies in BC.
Side note, KOMO TV Miracle Telethon was 4 hours only on Saturday Night (7-11pm)

You're right about that Mike. However, I'm sure this is the first (maybe second) year that it has been reduced to 12 hours. I've personally volunteered in years past and I know most definitely that it was on for the full 23 hours (while at BCTV). I'm aware last year they aired News Hour Final and I was surprised to find SNL on. I know there were taped segements with Robin Stickley and Steve Darling in the middle of the night. However, they always have the number. I figure if BCCH gets the money that's needed - great!

When ITV in Edmonton aired the Children's Miracle Network Telethon back in the day, it ran for 21 hours... The last year Global Edmonton ran it - it was a four-hour telethon. When CFRN took over (which was either two or three years ago), it went back to 21 hours... But last night's telethon was only four hours - and it was promoted to be mixed with the movie "Fantasia"... I didn't see the broadcast, but I bet you anything tight TV budgets are the reason behind these much shorter telethons.

CFPL/CKNX/CHWI in southern Ontario used to have a CMN Telethon that lasted the entire weekend - yes, Saturday morning to Sunday evening. This year it is only four hours. CFTO's hospital telethon I believe was only two hours, airing last night. These days it seems, ironically enough, that the longest hospital telethons broadcast are by the CBC. Back around Easter the CBC affiliates in Ontario (both O&Os and independents) ran a telethon that lasted all day Sunday. There was a provincial version with large regional inserts, from CBET, CBLT (including a special version for northeastern Ontario), CHEX, CKWS, CBOT, and CKPR.

By the way...do any stations in Canada broadcast the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy telethon on Labour Day?
